Sevco take paranoia to Stock Market | videocelts.com
Sevco chairman David Somers has launched an astonishing attack on the Scottish football authorities on the morning of the club’s second ever AGM.
With founding father Ally McCoist sent on gardening leave and the club needing £8m to see the season out Mr Somers blamed anyone and everyone for the plight of the club that is staring administration in the face.
Supporters, shareholders and the media were blamed for the financial plight with one passage of the statement released to the Alternative Investment Market aimed firmly at the SFA and SPFL.
Mr Somers said: “In these past 12 months, I have been surprised at a number of things. Firstly, the highly negative aspect of most of the media reporting regarding Rangers. Secondly, because it is clear to me that a stronger Rangers is good for Scottish football, I have been very disappointed to realise that outside of Ibrox, there sadly still exists a great deal of anti- Rangers feeling, perhaps (although I hope not) even in the football establishment.”
The London based Sevco chairman has clearly lost all grasp of reality after the football authorities bent over backwards to provide the handshake of friendship in the wake of Rangers going into liquidation for failing to pay over 200 creditors including a number of public bodies.
Without any audited accounts Sevco were given membership ahead of Spartans with the SFA structuring a registration ban allowing Ally McCoist to spend £750,000 on David Templeton as well as recruiting stars such as Ian Black, Kevin Kyle, Fran Sandaza, Sebastian Fraure and others to the club.
As the SPL and SFL merged, restrictions on the number of players over 21 were removed while clubs were allowed to play trialists in league matches.
After years of lobbying, a play-off system was finally introduced between the top two divisions allowing the club in fourth place in The Championship to retain a chance of top flight football. Sevco currently trail leaders Hearts by nine points having played a game more.
On top of all those favours, as well as having fourth officials at every Sevco match in the lower divisions, the SFA took both Scottish Cup semi-finals to Ibrox last season as well as Scotland’s Euro 2016 qualifier with Georgia.
The SFA have charged the Ibrox club with breaching the highly secretive Five Way Agreement that gave them membership with Mickey Ashley also charged with exerting boardroom influence on the club that he has propped up with two crisis loans totalling £3m.
The AGM turned into the predicted shambles as abuse was hurled at the directors of dignity sitting in a specially constructed gazebo with Mr Somers the main target for the hecklers.
