Major management consulting firm Accenture has entered into an alliance agreement with enterprise software developer Hortonworks in a collaboration the companies say will help build Accenture’s big data analytics capability.

Accenture and Hortonworks would collaborate on making large structured and unstructured datasets – including operational, video and sensor data – more accessible to organisations for “insight-driven decision-making”, the former said.

Working with Hortonworks, Accenture would also support clients who were looking to marry the Hortonworks Data Platform with existing IT infrastructure to better manage, transform and analyse data at scale.

“Data technologies are evolving rapidly, and enterprises and governments are challenged with how to adopt them while making sure the wealth of information is not inaccessible or underutilised,” said Narendra Mulani, senior managing director, Accenture Analytics, now a part of Accenture Digital.

“As companies move toward becoming digital businesses, they need to analyse all of their data to find key insights that will drive business outcomes. Our alliance with Hortonworks underpins our commitment to help clients embrace the challenges of digital transformation and accelerate returns from their data and analytics investments.”

US-based Hortonworks has exposure to the oil and gas sector, while Accenture works extensively with both mining and petroleum industry companies.
