Q4 Launches 'Q4 Surveillance' – Investor Sentiment Monitoring and …

Q4 Surveillance uses big data to provide real-time investor sentiment monitoring and alerts.

LAS VEGAS – Q4 Web Systems (Q4), the leading provider of IR websites, social media and mobile solutions for public companies, today launched Q4 Surveillance, a new big data investor sentiment, monitoring and alerting product designed to provide Investor Relations teams the tools and information they require to manage communication in today’s rapidly changing and connected world.

This new product combines millions of daily financial tweets and thousands of financial blogs with real-time sentiment analysis and alerts focused on the financial news impacting public company stock prices. The product has been created by Q4 in partnership with Finmaven, one of the growing stars of financial social media monitoring, recently mentioned in the Wall Street Journal.

Darrell Heaps, CEO of Q4 had this to say about the launch of Q4 Surveillance:

“Today the majority of institutional investors are incorporating Twitter and financial blogs into their research process. These firms are using big data tools to monitor social media and understand Twitter sentiment in real-time. It’s clear in today’s world, news breaks on Twitter and news drives the market. Investors understand this and are using big data tools to try and stay ahead of trends. Q4 Surveillance now brings these same tools to Investor Relations teams, enabling them to stay informed to the news that is impacting their stock, and their peers in real-time.”

Q4 Surveillance covers over 15,000 securities and provides real-time alerts via email any time the message volume or sentiment of a company moves out of the stocks normal range. If a new relevant blog post is written and gaining traction Q4 Surveillance sends an email alert to the subscriber, along with impact to sentiment and all related blog posts and tweets. This gives IR teams the time to understand and react in the best interest of their company.

How it Works

In order to provide these services, Q4 Surveillance processes millions of tweets per day. In the blink of an eye, a massive amount of data is ingested and analyzed:

consumer tweets are removed, focusing only on the capital markets, trading and investing
proprietary algorithms rank tweets based on influence (followers, interactions, profile, etc).
sentiment analysis is performed on the tweet and ranked
shared links are extracted and the related blog posts are indexed and ranked by sentiment
a rolling 7, 30 and 90 day sentiment is performed and updated onto the primary chart, enabling analysis against stock price and trading volume.

Why Q4 Surveillance is Perfect for Investor Relations

Q4 Surveillance is perfect for IR teams because they do not need to know how to use Twitter to use the product. The simple user interface and email alerts provide all of the information required in a easy to use format. Without having to join Twitter, or read the massive amount of blogs, IR teams can focus on the news that is most important and manage accordingly.

The product is also perfect for Investor Relations because it ensures they have access to the same information that institutional investors have around breaking news and market sentiment.

For example:

A blog is written on Seeking Alpha that is negative about your company. It is then tweeted out by it’s author. Q4 Surveillance picks it up and notifies you that it exists. However, upon review it is clear that the post is not resonating with the market, sentiment is not changing and the stock is not moving. IR teams can quickly determine this does not need to be managed.

Comparatively, a similar blogger posts to Seeking Alpha and the post is immediately tweeted out by 5 influential people on Twitter. A real-time alert is sent to the IR team, who see immediately that the post has a negative sentiment and is gaining traction, although not impacting the stock yet, it is clear there is significant risk that a drop in stock price is about to happen. This gives IR teams a early warning sign that the situation needs to be managed.

Other social media monitoring products are designed for marketing teams and broader consumer social media. Q4 Surveillance is designed exclusively for the capital markets, financial social media and sentiment analytics. Q4 Surveillance is the only Investor Relations product on the market that combines big data financial social monitoring with real-time sentiment analysis designed to keep investor relations professionals informed so they can make better decisions.

Q4 Surveillance will be generally available on June 8th, 2014.  For more information please visit www.q4websystems.com
