Speculation and promises are inherent in the world of developing technology and those aspects of the industry make it more than an attractive place to put your money into. The promises are heavier than speculation in the tech industry, which is why investors are keen to make tech stocks a part of their portfolio. Though many industries within the tech sector happen to be stable, there are some that are still in the early phases of existence. Therefore, the investments made into the companies of those industries are speculative, though promising at the same time. Big Data and Analytics is one of those industries, speculative yet promising. Cloud technology is bigger and more stable in comparison to big data so that it is not very speculative.

The wave towards Big Data and Analytics, globally, has become a phenomenon that none can deny while many tech giants have been racing each other into the new world. As technology progresses day by day and the world becomes more connected and digitalized, there is a plethora of data generated every day that can be assessed to gauge trends, habits, information, and forecasts that can be analyzed and enhance the strategic planning and decision making processes of individuals, corporations, government organizations, and all other entities that are part of the modern globalized world. There are many startups in the big data world though many giants such as IBM (NYSE:IBM), Oracle (NYSE:ORCL), SAP (NYSE:SAP), Teradata Corp (NYSE:TDC), Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN), Google (NASDAQ:GOOGL), HP (NYSE:HPQ), General Electric (NYSE:GE), and Dell have started new departments to work on big data and analytics. Other companies you should keep track of include MapR, MemSQL, Databricks, Platfora, Cloudera, Datameer and Trifacta.

Cloud computing has been the focus of many giants including IBM (NYSE:IBM), Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOGL), Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT), CISCO (NASDAQ:CSCO), Oracle Corp (NYSE:ORCL), AT&T (NYSE:T), HP(NYSE:HPQ), and Intel (NASDAQ:INTC). The amount of data that will need to be processed and worked on during the coming years will not probably require companies and even individuals to have their own servers or data centers. They will rather be operating through the cloud technology. The aforementioned tech and communication giants focus on different parts of the cloud computing technology that include development of cloud software, cloud storage, cloud platforms an developments, cloud security and cloud infrastructure.

The giant tech corporates, named above, involved in cloud and big data are enough to assess the significance of the two of the most promising and growing technologies.

Big Data and Analytics industry is expected to grow at an impressive 20% CAGR over the next several years according to some analysts while others suggest a 25% CAGR. The market for big data is expected to reach $47 billion within the next 3 years.

Cloud computing, in comparison to Big Data, is more stable and bigger. Cloud revenues are expected to reach around $200 billion within the next five years as compared to revenues of around $60 billion recorded not more than a year ago.

If all the companies involved in the industry are closely assessed and valued, it will take weeks to perform such an analysis that is to be presented in a single article. Long story short, the strategic shift of most of the tech corporates towards cloud and big data is a major indicator of the potential that these technologies have and the value that will be generated by them over the long term. All the aforementioned facts point towards a decision most investors who are interested in the tech sector should make, invest in the companies that are a part of cloud and big data world.
