It hasn’t all been about tennis for the players at this week’s ATP World Tour tournaments. ATPWorldTour.com provides a recap of the highlights.
Rogers Cup – Toronto, Canada
Tomas Berdych had an early wake-up call Tuesday as he was invited to open the stock market at the Toronto Stock Exchange, the largest stock exchange in Canada and the third largest in North America.
The Czech arrived at 9am and, after a 45-second countdown, opened the market at 9:30am by placing his hand on the LCD screen to initiate the siren.
“It’s something different,” said Berdych. “It’s a big moment. Obviously, it’s something special and interesting. So I really like to be a part of that and enjoy a new experience.
“The routine is very nice. I didn’t expect that, but it’s really nice to have the ritual like that of opening the stock market and I just hope and wish all the best and hope things go well.”

World No. 5 Berdych will open his Rogers Cup campaign on Wednesday against either Yen-Hsun Lu or Marcel Granollers. He is looking to win his second ATP World Tour Masters 1000 crown this week.
“I’m feeling well, I’m feeling good, and I’m really glad to be back,” said Berdych. “It’s always a nice week and I always look forward to coming back here in Toronto. I’m going to try to do another good and solid week here.”

Roger Federer offered his fans a rare moment at the Rogers Connected Zone tent on Monday when the Swiss No. 1 invited one of his coaches, Stefan Edberg, on stage to take part in a Q&A session with Rogers Cup spectators. Watch Video
One day prior, the World No. 3 swapped his tennis racquet for a hockey stick at the Rexall Centre as the Toronto Maple Leafs took on stars of the ATP World Tour on a transformed centre court.
Federer joined the likes of Radek Stepanek, Jack Sock, Eric Butorac, Peter Polansky, Joao Sousa, Nenad Zimonjic and Treat Huey in the fun hockey game against the Maple Leafs. ATP Executive Chairman & President Chris Kermode even donned a jersey and jumped in to play.

The Swiss met a few other athletes in Toronto. Tristan Thompson of the Cleveland Cavaliers posted a photo with Federer on Instagram, writing, “Had the pleasure of meeting the greatest tennis player ever rogerfederer at today’s Rogers Cup! http://instagram.com/p/rV0cOvQDCe/“. The Canadian ice dancing team of Scott Moir and Tessa Virtue, who won Olympic gold in 2010 in Vancouver, also relished their encounter.

ATP Executive Chairman & President Chris Kermode made some special presentations during his visit to the Rogers Cup in Toronto, celebrating the newest arrivals to the Top 10 of the Emirates ATP Rankings.
Kermode presented Milos Raonic, Grigor Dimitrov, Kei Nishikori and Ernests Gulbis with an Emirates ATP Top 10 Trophy, commemorating their achievement of breaking into the game’s elite.

Also receiving an award was the Rogers Cup itself, for its 25-year association with the ATP World Tour. CEO ATP Americas and Chief Legal and Media Officer, Mark Young, presented Rogers Cup Tournament Director Karl Hale with a commemorative trophy before Wednesday’s evening session. Milos Raonic, who was to face Jack Sock in the first match, joined fellow Canadian Daniel Nestor at the award ceremony. Nestor has participated in every edition of the Rogers Cup since 1990.
Marin Cilic, Frank Dancevic, Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan took to the stage at the Rexall Centre on Monday to showcase their artistic talents by adding colour and creativity to sketches prepared for them by artist David Arrigo.
Home favourite Dancevic, a Niagara Falls native, drew the most cheers as the players completed their artwork. The pieces be auctioned, with proceeds benefitting Tennis Matters, a charity for junior tennis in Canada. Read More
